What is LEGO SNOT?

SNOT is among the most common words used by LEGO fans, but what is it? Is it when you find a LEGO piece from your childhood that looks like it was munched by a squirrel? Is it when you literally make snot out of brick elements? Is it when you have a LEGO-induced cold? Well happily, it is none of these things.

SNOT is an acronym that stands for “Studs Not On Top”, and is a LEGO building technique that makes the sides of bricks become the top of the brick. A LEGO stud is the bump on the top part of a LEGO brick. There can be many studs on a single piece, or there may be none, depending upon the element.

This building method allows for models with smooth surfaces as opposed to a bumpy surface that LEGO studs create.
